More about Jeremiah Day
For almost twenty years, artist Jeremiah Day has been facilitating the democratic culture traditions of “new dance,” especially the logomotion movement-speech improvisation form of Simone Forti. Day is an artist based in Berlin. After studying art at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), he completed the residency program at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. Working across photography, video, performance, and movement, his practice weaves together personal experience and political realities, exploring how art can create spaces for reflection, encounter, and civic engagement. 

Under the editorial guidance of workshop participant and co-organiser Radna Rumping, a publication will be developed at a later stage: a collective reflection emerging from the “we” that took shape during the workshop, and a snapshot of this particular time and place — Amsterdam, summer 2026, “freedom?” — our questions, embodied, spoken, and given form.

This former school building at Bilderdijkpark today functions as a long-standing community house. Founded in 1968 as a social club for people living alone, HoH was a forward-thinking initiative for its time. In a period when family life was the dominant norm and living alone often came with social isolation, it created a space for connection and encounter.  

What began as a meeting place for divorced and widowed people gradually evolved into a vibrant community space where weekly activities continue to bring people together. The upper floors house artists’ studios and, more recently, Welcome Stranger.
